DAREN News, are articles and information about the Digital Amateur Radio "Emergency" Network of WV, which operates on 145.69 MHz.  Anyone having any information about DAREN, or Amateur Radio in general, and would like to share it with others, may send it to WA8LLM @ PKBGWV on 145.69 MHz, or to my E-Mail: wa8llm@yahoo.com.  A State Wide DAREN NET is operated every Saturday from 7:00 pm to 10:00 pm, and lately, before and after those hours.  The DAREN Net Announcement, showing the MAIN NCS, ALTERNATE NCS, NODEs accessible to both, and the previous week's check-ins, are posted by Thursday on most of the Main county DAREN PBBS'.  The DAREN News can also be found on the wc8ec.org website.

Not much News this week, and I'm still trying to get all the radio equipment repaired or replaced that got hit by lightening a couple of weeks ago.  I got an E-Mail from Jim Stephenson, KE8YB.  Jim has changed his callsign to a vanity call.  Jim's call is now WV8JS.  If you change your callsign at any time, let me know about it so I can correct your State Wide DAREN Net participation records.

Be sure to mark your calendar for the Jackson County Hamfest.  Their Hamfest will be held on Sunday, May 6th.  The Hamfest will be located at the Ripley Middle School in Ripley.

This coming Saturday, April 7th, I will teach a one day Technician Class license class in Spencer.  If you know of anyone who wants to get their Amateur Radio license, pass the word to them.  The class will start at about 9:00 am. The location of the class will be at the First Baptist Church on Routes 33 and 119, about a mile East of Spencer.  On Saturday, June 9th, there will also be a one day Technician Class license class in Parkersburg.  The class will be held at the Mid-Ohio Valley Health Department, 211 6th Street, and will start at about 9:00 am.  Testing will also be held after each of the classes.

There were 55 check-ins to the State Wide DAREN Net this week.  Terry Meadows, N8HXV, who's been participating in the net since October 31, 1992, has completed 100 check-ins.  Kendale Peterson, KD8QAK, who's been participating in the net since April 23, 2011, has completed 50 check-ins.  And, Donnie Woodford, KC8YVR, needs only one more check-in to make 350.  Things haven't settled down any, and it doesn't look like it's going to for a while, so I'll just keep trying to get the certificates printed for those who have been waiting for them.
