DAREN News, are articles and information about the Digital Amateur Radio "Emergency" Network of WV, which operates on 145.69 MHz. Anyone having any information about DAREN, or Amateur Radio in general, and would like to share it with others, may send it to WA8LLM @ PKBGWV on 145.69 MHz, or to my E-Mail: email@example.com. A State Wide DAREN NET is operated every Saturday from 7:00 pm to 10:00 pm, and lately, before and after those hours. The DAREN Net Announcement, showing the MAIN NCS, ALTERNATE NCS, NODEs accessible to both, and the previous week's check-ins, are posted by Thursday on most of the Main county DAREN PBBS'. The DAREN News can also be found on the wc8ec.org website.
Not much news this week. It seems everything has slowed down with the coming of winter. The Wood County Emergency Communications (WCEC) group held a one day Technician Class license class yesterday. There were 10 people who took the class. The class was very well advertised. Two people came from Tyler County, two came from Wirt County, and the rest came from Wood County. Only seven out of the ten passed the Technician Class license and should be receiving their licenses in a couple of weeks.
The WCEC group will be helping with the Parkersburg Christmas Parade next Saturday. Their job will be to help keep the Master of Ceremonies, Doug Hess, KD8PYD, informed of the floats as they approach the viewing stand. Doug has used the WCEC group for several years, and decided to get his Amateur Radio license. Doug took one of the one license classes this year. Doug's wife has been an Amateur Radio operator for several years and finally decided he had better get his license.
There were 54 check-ins to the State Wide DAREN Net this week. Jim Stephenson, KE8YB, who's been participating in the net since June 23, 2001, has completed 350 check-ins, and will be receiving his certificate. Gladys Gorrell, KC8GIZ, needs only one more check-in to make 750. There as one station that checked into the net this week with the callsign of "TEST". If your call doesn't show up on the DAREN Net Announcement this coming week, and think it may have been you, let me know so that I can give you credit for the participation in the net.
