DAREN News, are articles and information about the Digital Amateur Radio "Emergency" Network of WV, which operates on 145.69 MHz.  Anyone having any Information about DAREN, or Amateur Radio in general, and would like to share it with others, may send it to WA8LLM @ PKBGWV on 145.69 MHz, or to my E-Mail: wa8llm@yahoo.com.  A State Wide DAREN NET is operated every Saturday from 7:00 pm to 10:00 pm, and lately, before and after those hours.  The DAREN Net Announcement, showing the MAIN NCS, ALTERNATE NCS, NODEs accessible to both, and the previous week's check-ins, are posted by Thursday on most of the Main county DAREN PBBS'.  The DAREN News can also be found on the wc8ec.org website.

Not much news this week, so I'll give some information about an SET (Simulated Emergency Test) that will be happening this coming Saturday, October 29th.  The Kanawha County ARES (Amateur Radio Emergency Service) group will be doing a traffic flow exercise on three Interstate Highways, and maybe some State Highways.  They will be using 2 Meter and HF Voice, and 2 Meter Packet via the DAREN system and the Chat Room node of CHATRM.  The HF frequency will be around 7235 KHz.  They will start establishing their networks at around 8:30 am. Their exercise will officially start at 9:00 am.  They will be passing traffic count reports about every 15 minutes to whoever might want them.  I will be taking some of their traffic reports via the Chat Room, and confirming that I received the messages back via HF.  If you would like to participate in their SET, just connect into the Chat Room, and let us know you are there.  You can learn how to use the Chat Room by reading last week's DAREN News.

That's all I have for this week.  If you have an SET, VE Testing, Hamfest, or anything related to Amateur Radio, let me know about it, and I'll put it in the DAREN News.  I'm always looking for something to put in the News.  Without any information to put in the DAREN News, there wouldn't be one.  The DAREN News has been issued every week since July 19, 1992.  It's not the biggest news media, but since it gets posted on the Wood County Emergency Communications website of: www.wc8ec.org it does have access to the world.

There were 55 check-ins this week to the State Wide DAREN Net.  Michael Whitco, KC8OAN, who's been participating in the net since February 3, 2001, and Brad Carabine, KC8TYU, who's been participating in the net since October 19, 2002, have completed 400 check-ins each, and will be receiving their certificates. By now everyone who has been waiting for their participation certificate should have it in hand.  If you have been expecting a certificate, and haven't received it yet, let me know so that I can get it to you.
