DAREN News, are articles and information about the Digital Amateur Radio "Emergency" Network of WV, which operates on 145.69 MHz.  Anyone having any information about DAREN, or Amateur Radio in general, and would like to share it with others, may send it to WA8LLM @ PKBGWV on 145.69 MHz, or to my E-Mail: wa8llm@yahoo.com.  A State Wide DAREN NET is operated every Saturday from 7:00 pm to 10:00 pm, and lately, before and after those hours.  The DAREN Net Announcement, showing the MAIN NCS, ALTERNATE NCS, NODEs accessible to both, and the previous week's check-ins, are posted by Thursday on most of the Main county DAREN PBBS'.  The DAREN News can also be found on the wc8ec.org website.

Not much news this week.  Terry Mills, KC8TUE, wanted to know if I would like to make a trip to the Wetzel County NODE/PBBS, WETZWV/NMARWV site this coming Wednesday to work on the station, since it has been off for several months.  I was just about ready to go, when I got a telephone call from the Health Department about a Flu Clinic they will be holding on Thursday.  They are going to take their Communications Trailer to the Flu site, and they want us to set up their communications on Wednesday to get ready for the next day.  We'll be at the Flu Clinic from about 8:00 am on until about 3:00 pm on Thursday.  Since there will be several people coming to get their Flu Shot, we thought about setting up Amateur Radio for Show-N-Tell.  We may get a few people to come by and we can talk about Amateur Radio, and the different modes.  This is going to be a busy week for me since I'm also getting my paperwork for the Wood County Emergency Communications business meeting on Tuesday, and getting things organized for the Parkersburg/Wood County Hamfest which will be held this coming Saturday.  We will be at the Hamfest location Friday evening setting up tables and the PA system, and what ever else needs done.  Terry and I made a trip to Columbus, Ohio, this past Wednesday to pick up the radios that will be given away as the main prizes at the Hamfest.  While there we also picked up several door prizes.  If you get a chance to come to the Hamfest, please do so. Also pass on to everyone you know about the Hamfest.  If anyone needs any information about the Hamfest, check out the website: www.wc8ec.org   On Sunday, the day after the Hamfest, Mountwood Park is wanting to borrow either one or two of our 24 foot by 40 foot canopies for an activity.  It only takes one telephone call to change my whole week.

There were 53 check-ins to this week's State Wide DAREN Net.  Lee Mairs, KM4YY, who's been participating in the net since March 15, 2008, has completed 150 check-ins, and will be receiving his certificate.  I missed announcing his 149th check-in last week.  My wife Dot Harris, KC8HAI, needs only one more check-in to make 750.  Every week that I don't get the certificates out to those who are waiting for them puts me farther behind.  After the Parkersburg Hamfest is over this weekend, I should have some time to get certificates printed up and mailed out.  I just hope things will stay quiet for awhile, and no more telephone calls.
