DAREN News, are articles and information about the Digital Amateur Radio "Emergency" Network of WV, which operates on 145.69 MHz.  Anyone having any information about DAREN, or Amateur Radio in general, and would like to share it with others, may send it to WA8LLM @ PKBGWV on 145.69 MHz, or to my E-Mail: wa8llm@yahoo.com. A State Wide DAREN NET is operated every Saturday from 7:00 pm to 10:00 pm, and lately, before and after those hours.  The DAREN Net Announcement, showing the MAIN NCS, ALTERNATE NCS, NODEs accessible to both, and the previous week's check-ins, are posted by Thursday on most of the Main county DAREN PBBS'.  The DAREN News can also be found on the wc8ec.org website.

I got an E-Mail from Lee Mairs, KM4YY.  He said that he was having problems the NODE/PBBS of HAMPWV/RMNYWV.  He said the station was off the for about three days.  He did a reset on the station and it seemed to come back up and is operational.  He also said that WV Navy/Marine Corps MARS is looking for a few good operators.  This is a great way to enjoy Amateur Radio, but with a mission.  What WV MARS offers is a disciplined net on a frequency with no QRM. Only Mother Nature interferes with their 3D1B nets.  Lee says that MARS also offers assistance with operating some of the latest digital modes such as MT63 and the new RMS Express WINMOR mode which permits sending of E-Mails even if the power is out, and your Internet Service Provider is dead.  He says they also have an automated process to insure that your Navy/Marine MARS Membership application is processed ASAP.  If you're interested in joining the MARS group, go to the www.navymars.org website, and click on the third item down in the text box on the left edge of your screen.

I have to go to a meeting in Ripley on Wednesday.  While I'm down that way, I think I'll stop by the Jackson County NODE/PBBS of JACKWV/RPLYWV.  The station has been off the air for about three weeks.  Before the weather gets too bad, I need to also make a trip to the Wetzel County NODE/PBBS of WETZWV/NMARWV.  That station has been off the air for several months.

There were 55 check-ins to this week's State Wide DAREN Net.  Kenneth Butler, WA8TOX, who's been participating in the net since July 12, 2008, has completed 150 check-ins.  And, Madison Sweitzer, KB3URT, who's been participating in the net since October 2, 2010, has completed 50 check-ins.  Both of these operators will be receiving their certificates.  Joe Peterson, N8DSN, needs only one more check-in to make 850.  I want to welcome Brent Wells, KB8TIS, back to the DAREN Net, and system.  Brent has been missing from the system since July 2, 2005.
