DAREN News, are articles and information about the Digital Amateur Radio "Emergency" Network of WV, which operates on 145.69 MHz.  Anyone having any information about DAREN, or Amateur Radio in general, and would like to share it with others, may send it to WA8LLM @ PKBGWV on 145.69 MHz, or to my E-Mail: wa8llm@yahoo.com.  A State Wide DAREN NET is operated every Saturday from 7:00 pm to 10:00 pm, and lately, before and after those hours.  The DAREN Net Announcement, showing the MAIN NCS, ALTERNATE NCS, NODEs accessible to both, and the previous week's check-ins, are posted by Thursday on most of the Main county DAREN PBBS'.  The DAREN News can also be found on the wc8ec.org website.

It's been 10 years since the disaster in New York, Pennsylvania, and the Pentagon.  I hope everyone thought about that day and remembered those who lost their lives.  I'm sure everyone remembers where they were, and what they doing when they heard about the event.  Let us never forget the happenings of September 11, 2001.

Well, this is issue number 1000 of the DAREN News.  The first issue was written on July 19, 1992.  I would not have thought that it would last that long. While the DAREN system was growing it was easy to come up with enough news to fill a full page.  But, now it's hard to get a half page of information to pass along to those who read it.  If you have any information that's related to Packet Radio, or Amateur Radio in general, that you would like to pass on to those who read the News, send it to me and we'll put it in here.  If you or your group is doing Volunteer Amateur Radio Testing, holding Special Event Stations, Hamfests, or any other Amateur Radio activities, let me know about them.

There were 53 check-ins to this week's State Wide DAREN Net.  Terry Mills, KC8TUE, who's been participating in the net since October 19, 2002, has completed 400 check-ins.  And, Remington Sweitzer, KB3TXG, who's been participating in the net since October 2, 2010, has completed 50 check-ins. Both of these operators will be receiving their certificates.  Kenneth Butler, WA8TOX, needs only one more check-in to make 150.  And, Madison Sweitzer, KB3URT, needs only one more check-in to make 50.
