DAREN News, are articles and information about the Digital Amateur Radio "Emergency" Network of WV, which operates on 145.69 MHz.  Anyone having any information about DAREN, or Amateur Radio in general, and would like to share it with others, may send it to WA8LLM @ PKBGWV on 145.69 MHz, or to my E-Mail: wa8llm@yahoo.com.  A State Wide DAREN NET is operated every Saturday from 7:00 pm to 10:00 pm, and lately, before and after those hours.  The DAREN Net Announcement, showing the MAIN NCS, ALTERNATE NCS, NODEs accessible to both, and the previous week's check-ins, are posted by Thursday on most of the Main county DAREN PBBS'.  The DAREN News can also be found on the wc8ec.org website.

I hope everyone has been having a safe Labor Day weekend so far.  It looks like we are going to have rain for the next several days.  I will have to get some time to make trips to a couple of tower sites.  The Wetzel County NODE/PBBS, WETZWV/NMARWV has been gone for a few months, and the Jackson County NODE/PBBS, JACKWV/RPLYWV, has not been on the air for a couple of weeks.  I need to get the two stations back in operation before the weather starts getting bad, and I'm not able to get to them.

The members of Wood County Emergency Communications are still working on their Hamfest which will be held on October 8th.  They figured which radios they are going to give away as main prizes.  They have ordered the radios and should be in hand in a couple of weeks.  They will be giving away an HF radio, a 2 Meter mobile, and a dual band Hand Held radio, an maybe a few other main prizes. depending on how the sale of extra tickets go.  They will be having door prize drawings every five minutes, with the top door prize of a 800 watt generator. There's also an MFJ Antenna Tuner.  They are hoping to have three or four large First Aid Kits.  There are several voltmeters, and other computer accessories. To find out what the main prizes, and some of the door prizes are, and other information about the Hamfest, connect to the   www.wc8ec.org   website. Additional door prizes are being added as they become available, so you need to keep checking the website on a regular basis.

There were 50 check-ins to this week's State Wide DAREN Net.  Mark Sweitzer, KD8MIV, who's been participating in the net since September 25, 2010, has completed 50 check-ins, and will be receiving his certificate.  Terry Mills, KC8TUE, needs only one more check-in to make 400.  And, Remington Sweitzer, KB3TXG, needs only one more check-in to make 50.
