DAREN News, are articles and information about the Digital Amateur Radio "Emergency" Network of WV, which operates on 145.69 MHz.  Anyone having any information about DAREN, or Amateur Radio in general, and would like to share it with others, may send it to WA8LLM @ PKBGWV on 145.69 MHz, or to my E-Mail: wa8llm@yahoo.com.  A State Wide DAREN NET is operated every Saturday from 7:00 pm to 10:00 pm, and lately, before and after those hours.  The DAREN Net Announcement, showing the MAIN NCS, ALTERNATE NCS, NODEs accessible to both, and the previous week's check-ins, are posted by Thursday on most of the Main county DAREN PBBS'.  The DAREN News can also be found on the wc8ec.org website.

I got a message from Gene Roy, N8ER.  Gene said that he received an E-Mail from Zane Hammack, WV8ZH, the system operator who worked on the Randolph County NODE/PBBS of RANDWV/ELKNWV.  Zane said the station is back up to par, but he didn't say what the problem was.  After I got the message, I tried to connect to the station from my regular path, through RITCWV, but wasn't able to connect to it.  It may have been band conditions.  The next day I was able to see the station at my house, so I know It's transmitting okay.  I then tried to connect to it from the RITCWV NODE.  It took a little bit, but I was able to connect to it.  I'll see what it is like when I post this issue of the News.

I hope everyone had a good time at the West Virginia State ARRL Convention over the weekend.  I wasn't able to make it to the convention due to the Parkersburg Homecoming.  A few years ago the convention date was changed, and it now falls on the same date of the homecoming.  Our communications group, Wood County Emergency Communications, operates the BINGO games as a fund raiser at the homecoming.  Since I'm the one who is responsible for the BINGO License, I need to be at the games.  While at the homecoming, I heard rumors the homecoming may change their date by a week, and I'll be able to start attending the convention again.

There were 53 check-ins to this week's State Wide DAREN Net.  John Western, KC8ODI, who's been participating in the net since March 13, 2004, has completed 350 check-ins, and will be receiving his certificate.  Paul Derosky, K8GLA, needs only one more check-in to make 650.
