DAREN News, are articles and information about the Digital Amateur Radio "Emergency" Network of WV, which operates on 145.69 MHz.  Anyone having any information about DAREN, or Amateur Radio in general, and would like to share it with others, may send it to WA8LLM @ PKBGWV on 145.69 MHz, or to my E-Mail: wa8llm@yahoo.com.  A State Wide DAREN NET is operated every Saturday from 7:00 pm to 10:00 pm, and lately, before and after those hours.  The DAREN Net Announcement, showing the MAIN NCS, ALTERNATE NCS, NODEs accessible to both, and the previous week's check-ins, are posted by Thursday on most of the Main county DAREN PBBS'.  The DAREN News can also be found on the wc8ec.org website.

It's been another quiet week as far as DAREN News.  I've been having trouble getting into the Northern Panhandle NODEs of WETZWV, OHIOWV, and HANDWV.  I've noticed the Wetzel County NODE/PBBS of WETZWV/NMARWV has been off the air for about a month now.  It looks like I need to find some time to go up that direction to see what has happened to it.  There are a couple of other stations that I haven't been able to get into for awhile now.  The Eastern Panhandle NODE/PBBS for BERKWV/MRTNWV, and the Greenbrier County NODE/PBBS of GREEWV/FAIRWV.  If anyone knows who takes care of them, you might try to contact them and see if we can get them back on the air.  I got a telephone call from Shane Harper, KD8BMX, about the Randolph County NODE/PBBS of RANDWV/FKLNWV.  He said that one of the operators in his area hasn't been able to connect to it.  I noticed that I wasn't able to connect to it from my usual path of RITCWV, while I was posting the DAREN News and Net Announcement last week.  But, I was able to connect to it from the Preston County NODE of PRESWV. I just thought it might have been band conditions, and never gave it any more thought.  Shane is going to contact Zane Hammack, WV8ZH, who takes care of that station to see if he will look at it.

Don't forget the ARRL West Virginia State Amateur Radio Convention is coming up on August 20th at Jackson's Mill.  Also the Parkersburg/Wood County Hamfest will be coming up on October 8th.  Keep up to date on any Hamfests or other Amateur Radio activities, that we can find out about, by connecting to the Wood County Emergency Communications website: www.wc8ec.org  If you have any Amateur related activities you would like posted on the website, let me know.

There were 52 check-ins to this week's State Wide DAREN.  Frank Hughes, WD8DEP, who has been participating in the net since November 20, 2004, has completed 300 check-ins, and will be receiving his certificate.
