DAREN News, are articles and information about the Digital Amateur Radio "Emergency" Network of WV, which operates on 145.69 MHz. Anyone having any information about DAREN, or Amateur Radio in general, and would like to share it with others, may send it to WA8LLM @ PKBGWV on 145.69 MHz, or to my E-Mail: wa8llm@yahoo.com. A State Wide DAREN NET is operated every Saturday from 7:00 pm to 10:00 pm, and lately, before and after those hours. The DAREN Net Announcement, showing the MAIN NCS, ALTERNATE NCS, NODEs accessible to both, and the previous week's check-ins, are posted by Thursday on most of the Main county DAREN PBBS'. The DAREN News can also be found on the wc8ec.org website.
I got an E-Mail from Gene Roy, N8ER, telling me that he had received a telephone call from Bob Tuckerman, W3RUA, about the Pendleton County NODE/PBBS of PENDWV/FKLNWV. It seems the station went off the air sometime Friday, May 27. Bob wasn't for sure when he was going to be able to make a trip to the tower site to locate the problem. On Monday, Gene told me the station was back on the air, but didn't know what the problem was. I got a telephone call from Bob explaining what had happened. He said that he also had a couple Public Safety radios that were off the air, at the same tower site. He told one of the technicians he thought that a circuit breaker may have been tripped. Bob said there had been a bad electrical storm which went thorough the area, and the power had been off and on several times. He suspected the surges may have tripped a breaker. When the technician got to the site, there were two tripped breakers. When the breakers were reset, everything came up and started working just fine.
Ralph Matheny, K8RYU, is in need of an MFJ 1270B or 1270C TNC, to get his X-1J4 NODE back in operation. He says that he has repaired the one he's been using so many times, he don't think it can be repaired again. If anyone has an MFJ 1270 B or C TNC, or two, or knows of someone who has one, they would like to part with, you might contact Ralph and work out some kind of deal. You can reach Ralph at: mathenyr@marietta.edu
That's all I have for this week. I hope everyone has a good Memorial Day Holiday, and think of our members in the Military, who have gave their all.
There were 53 check-ins to this week's State Wide DAREN Net. Allen Poland Jr., K8AXW, who's been participating in the net since October 11, 2008, has completed 100 check-ins, and will be receiving his certificate. Bill Bayless, KB8HEK, needs only one more check-in to make 450. This has been a busy week for me and I haven't had time to address the envelopes to get the certificates mailed out. I hope to get them done some time soon.
