DAREN News, are articles and information about the Digital Amateur Radio "Emergency" Network of WV, which operates on 145.69 MHz.  Anyone having any information about DAREN, or Amateur Radio in general, and would like to share it with others, may send it to WA8LLM @ PKBGWV on 145.69 MHz, or to my E-Mail: wa8llm@yahoo.com.  A State Wide DAREN NET is operated every Saturday from 7:00 pm to 10:00 pm, and lately, before and after those hours.  The DAREN Net Announcement, showing the MAIN NCS, ALTERNATE NCS, NODEs accessible to both, and the previous week's check-ins, are posted by Thursday on most of the Main county DAREN PBBS'.  The DAREN News can also be found on the wc8ec.org website.

Not much news this week.  The only thing I have is the Wood County Fire Prevention & Safety Fair yesterday.  The Wood County Emergency Communications (WCEC) group participated in the fair by demonstrating Amateur Radio and some of the modes that can be used in case of a major disaster, and regular communications were disrupted.  The group had a couple of HF stations, and a Packet system, on the DAREN system, set up.  They also had a portable telephone system in operation which had extension telephones to all of the agencies who wanted to be part of the system.  The Amateur stations were set up in two different trailers.  One of the trailers belongs to the Mid Ohio Valley Health Department, and has most of the Public Safety radios system available in it. The communications in the trailer is being installed by the WCEC group.  Part of the equipment has been furnished by the Health Department and part of it by WCEC.  The second trailer is a support trailer used to store and haul equipment that might be needed to establish additional communications and antenna systems.  Also set up a couple of computers with videos about Amateur Radios. The videos ran in a continuous loop.  Several people stopped by and ask questions about Amateur Radio and how to get involved.

There were 52 check-ins to this week's State Wide DAREN Net.  Allen Poland Jr., K8AXW, needs only one more check-in to make 100.  For those who have been waiting for their certificates, I have some good news.  I have all of the certificates printed up and ready to be mailed out.  With any luck, I will get them in the mail this week.  If the weather breaks enough so I can get into the garden, they may be a little.  At least they are ready to be placed in an envelope and get mailed out.
