DAREN News, are articles and information about the Digital Amateur Radio "Emergency" Network of WV, which operates on 145.69 MHz.  Anyone having any information about DAREN, or Amateur Radio in general, and would like to share it with others, may send it to WA8LLM @ PKBGWV on 145.69 MHz, or to my E-Mail: wa8llm@yahoo.com.  A State Wide DAREN NET is operated every Saturday from 7:00 pm to 10:00 pm, and lately, before and after those hours.  The DAREN Net Announcement, showing the MAIN NCS, ALTERNATE NCS, NODEs accessible to both, and the previous week's check-ins, are posted by Thursday on most of the Main county DAREN PBBS'.  The DAREN News can also be found on the wc8ec.org website.

Nothing much to pass on this week.  It's even been quiet in this neck of the woods.  Wood County Emergency Communications is getting set up to hold a one day General Class Radio License class this coming Saturday, May 14th.  The class will be held at the Mid Ohio Valley Health Department, and it starts at 12:00 noon.  The address is 211 6th Street in downtown Parkersburg.  After the class is completed there will be regular Volunteer Examination testing.  They have sponsored one Technicians class, and held one, but this is the first One Day General class they are going to try.  If the class works out, they are going to hold another one on June 11th.  The 2007 General Class License Question Pool will no longer be any good after the last of June.  They are wanting to hold the classes to allow those who have been studying the 2007 Question Pool the opportunity to get their licenses before the Question Pool changes.

Don't forget the Jackson County Hamfest next Sunday, May 15th.  The Hamfest will be held from 8:00 am to 1:00 pm.  The Hamfest will be located at the Ripley Middle School, in Ripley WV.

Also the West Virginia ARRL State Convention is coming up on August 20th, at Jackson Mills State Park near Weston, WV.  From what I have been hearing, they are getting a lot of activities lined up.

There were 59 check-ins to this week's State Wide DAREN Net.  Steven O'Dell, N8SNR, who's participating in the net since April 2, 1994, has completed 500 check-ins.  Jerry Sturm, KC8SIG, who's been participating in the net since May 9, 2009, has completed 100 check-ins.  Both of these operators will be receiving their certificates.  I'm getting closer to get a replacement computer ready to print up the certificates for those who have been waiting.  Tom Martin, WW8TM, needs only one more check-in to make 700.  There were two new participates to the State Wide DAREN Net this week, and they were: Kimberly, KD8OWG, and Melvin, KD8OHG, Shiflett, from Mill Creek, WV.  I want to welcome them to the State Wide DAREN system and hope they join us on the net each week, and use the system as often as possible.  If any of the new operators to the DAREN system have any questions about the system, drop me a note, and see if I can answer them.
