DAREN News, are articles and information about the Digital Amateur Radio "Emergency" Network of WV, which operates on 145.69 MHz.  Anyone having any information about DAREN, or Amateur Radio in general, and would like to share it with others, may send it to WA8LLM @ PKBGWV on 145.69 MHz, or to my E-Mail: wa8llm@yahoo.com.  A State Wide DAREN NET is operated every Saturday from 7:00 pm to 10:00 pm, and lately, before and after those hours.  The DAREN Net Announcement, showing the MAIN NCS, ALTERNATE NCS, NODEs accessible to both, and the previous week's check-ins, are posted by Thursday on most of the Main county DAREN PBBS'.  The DAREN News can also be found on the wc8ec.org website.

The Mid Ohio Valley Heath Department sponsored a one day Amateur Radio Technician License class.  The one day class was held on Saturday, April 2nd, at the Health Department in Parkersburg.  There were 33 people that took the class, but only 31 took their test.  Out of the 31 that took their test, only 22 of them passed.  There were several Public Safety people from the Health Department, Ambulance Service, Fire Department, 911 Dispatchers, the Manager of the Wood County Airport, the chairman of the Wood County LEPC, and Red Cross that took the class and test.

Wood County Emergency Communications and other Amateur Radio operators will be providing the Safety Communications for a Mountain Bike Race next Sunday, April 10th.  The radio operators will be stationed in the woods, and on the hills around the race course.  The groups have been providing the race Safety Communications for several years.  It seems to be cold and raining every year. They are hoping for a good day this year.

That's all I have to report this week.  Be sure to put the Athens, Ohio Hamfest and the Jackson County Hamfest on your calendar.  The Athens Hamfest will be on May 1st, and the Jackson County Hamfest will be May 15th.

There were 63 check-ins to this week's State Wide DAREN Net.  Lisa Hendershot, KB8UER, needs only one more check-in to make 850.  There was one new station that checked into the net this week, and that was Rick Sawyer, WV8DOC, from Parkersburg.  Rick has been checking into the Local DAREN/District 3 ARES Net for a couple of weeks, and decided to try the State Wide Net.  I have some sad news to pass on.  Pam Riffle, KC8NLD, who had been checking into the State Wide DAREN for several years passed away after a long illness on Monday, March 28.
