DAREN News, are articles and information about the Digital Amateur Radio "Emergency" Network of WV, which operates on 145.69 MHz. Anyone having any information about DAREN, or Amateur Radio in general, and would like to share it with others, may send it to WA8LLM @ PKBGWV on 145.69 MHz, or to my E-Mail: firstname.lastname@example.org. A State Wide DAREN NET is operated every Saturday from 7:00 pm to 10:00 pm, and lately, before and after those hours. The DAREN Net Announcement, showing the MAIN NCS, ALTERNATE NCS, NODEs accessible to both, and the previous week's check-ins, are posted by Thursday on most of the Main county DAREN PBBS'. The DAREN News can also be found on the wc8ec.org website.
I hope everyone had a good Thanksgiving and didn't eat too much. We are still eating leftovers at our house. And, for the hunters out there, just be careful, there is still another week of Deer season.
While I was helping to set up the Wood County Emergency Communications trailer as a concession trailer for the Thanksgiving Free Coffee Safety Break, we had one Amateur visitor, who is also a DAREN operator. It was my pleasure to met Rob Klinger, WD8MTN. When he first introduced himself I didn't recognize the callsign until he signed the Visiting Amateur Log, then I realized who he was. I had never met Rob before so I'm glad that he stopped by.
The Wood County Emergency Communications group is already starting to work on the 2011 Wood County Hamfest. The date has already been set, and the building has already been reserved. The date for the Hamfest will be October 8, 2011, and the location will be the same as it was this year. It will be at the 4-H and Wood County Fair Grounds in Mineral Wells, about five miles from the I-77 Mile Marker 170. Keep watching the www.wc8ec.org website for information. The information will start being placed on the website around the first of January, 2011.
That's all I have for this week. I need something to write about. If you have anything you would like to pass on to others let me know.
There were 59 check-ins to this week's State Wide DAREN Net. Gene Roy, N8ER, who has been participating in the net since May 1, 1993, has completed 900 check-ins. Anna Hendershot, KC8JWW, who has been participating in the net since May 9, 1998, has completed 650 check-ins. And, Jim Perry, KB8LSR, who has been participating in the net, on and off, since April 15, 1995, has completed 150 check-ins. All of these operators will be receiving their certificates as soon as I receive the certificate paper. Bob Hanson, AF8RH, needs only one more check-in to make 700. And, Tricia Magyarosi, KC8VLI, needs only one more check-in to make 350. I finally found a place to order the certificate paper and it should be here this week. I hope that by the end of the week I can start printing up, and sending out the certificates to those who have waiting.
