DAREN News, are articles and information about the Digital Amateur Radio "Emergency" Network of WV, which operates on 145.69 MHz.  Anyone having any information about DAREN, or Amateur Radio in general, and would like to share it with others, may send it to WA8LLM @ PKBGWV on 145.69 MHz, or to my E-Mail: wa8llm@yahoo.com.  A State Wide DAREN NET is operated every Saturday from 7:00 pm to 10:00 pm, and lately, before and after those hours.  The DAREN Net Announcement, showing the MAIN NCS, ALTERNATE NCS, NODEs accessible to both, and the previous week's check-ins, are posted by Thursday on most of the Main county DAREN PBBS'.  The DAREN News can also be found on the wc8ec.org website.

Not much news this week.  I'm going to be busy all week with all the activities that are going on.  I have to get the Section Emergency Coordinator Report ready to send to the ARRL, I have to get the records for the WCEC (Wood County Emergency Communications) group ready for their business meeting on Tuesday evening, and then I need to get a lot of things done for the Hamfest next Saturday.  There are a lot of items that need to be done for the Hamfest.  This is only the second Hamfest for the WCEC group, and it is in a different location then it was last year, so everything it is almost like starting all over again.  We were a lot better prepared this year, since we had some idea of what we were doing, and we started getting ready a little earlier.  But, with all of the other activities this past summer, we still weren't ready.  If you get a chance to come to the Hamfest, I hope you like it.  We were going to have door prize drawings every 15 minutes, but since we gathered up several prizes, we decided to have a drawing every 5 minutes.  There will be a 50/50 drawing, and a mobile check-in drawing.  The value of several of the door prizes is above $50.  There are four main prizes, an HF transceiver, two 2 Meter Mobile Radios, and a Handheld Radio.  For more information check out the WCEC website of: www.wc8ec.org.  Hope to see you at the Hamfest.

There were 69 check-ins to this week's State Wide DAREN Net.  Joe Peterson, N8DSN, who's been participating in the net since March 26, 1994, has completed 800 check-ins and will be receiving his certificate.  There were two new participates to the net this week and the were Remington, KB3TXG, from Madison, KB3URT, Sweitzer, from Oakland Maryland.  I want to welcome Remington and Madison to the DAREN system, and hope they can participate in the State Wide DAREN Net as often as possible.  There was one station that checked into the net this week with the callsign of "TEST".  If you don't see your callsign on this week's State Wide DAREN Net Announcement, and think if may have been you, send me a message and I will correct your participation records.  No one will know who it was.
