DAREN News, are articles and information about the Digital Amateur Radio "Emergency" Network of WV, which operates on 145.69 MHz.  Anyone having any information about DAREN, or Amateur Radio in general, and would like to share it with others, may send it to WA8LLM @ PKBGWV on 145.69 MHz, or to my E-Mail: wa8llm@yahoo.com.  A State Wide DAREN NET is operated every Saturday from 7:00 pm to 10:00 pm, and lately, before and after those hours.  The DAREN Net Announcement, showing the MAIN NCS, ALTERNATE NCS, NODEs accessible to both, and the previous week's check-ins, are posted by Thursday on most of the Main county DAREN PBBS'.  The DAREN News can also be found on the wc8ec.org website.

Randy Thomas, K8KHW, has the got his Winlink E-Mail system back up and running since he moved about four months ago.  The Alias for the Internet station is still K8KHW-10.  I haven't had a chance to see what routes can connect to the station since he is at a new location.

Larry Slagle, KB8CVP, called the other day and said there would be no Special Event Station in operation at the Preston County Buckwheat Festival this year. It's getting more difficult to get operators to help with the event.  He wanted to let me know the Net Control Station for the October 2nd State Wide DAREN would not be in Preston County.  The NCS for the State Wide DAREN Net will be located in Wood County this year.  The Buckwheat Festival, sponsored by the Kingwood Volunteer Fire Department, starts on September 30th, and runs through October 3rd.

Terry Mills, KC8TUE, wants to let everyone know the Wood County Hamfest is still being worked on.  The Hamfest will be held on October 9th.  The location of the Hamfest will be at the Wood County 4-H Campgrounds on Butcher Bend Road, in Mineral Wells.  If coming from the North or South on Interstate I-77, take Exit 170, and follow the signs.  Keep watching the www.wc8ec.org website for updates.  A list of the prizes and other information will be posted there.

There were 54 check-ins to this week's State Wide DAREN Net.  Lee Mairs, KM4YY, who's been participating in the net since March 15, 2008, has completed 100 check-ins, and will be receiving his certificate.  I want to welcome back Dilt Wilt, K8TPH, who's been missing from the net since September 22, 2007.
