DAREN News, are articles and information about the Digital Amateur Radio "Emergency" Network of WV, which operates on 145.69 MHz.  Anyone having any information about DAREN, or Amateur Radio in general, and would like to share it with others, may send it to WA8LLM @ PKBGWV on 145.69 MHz, or to my E-Mail: wa8llm@yahoo.com.  A State Wide DAREN NET is operated every Saturday from 7:00 pm to 10:00 pm, and lately, before and after those hours.  The DAREN Net Announcement, showing the MAIN NCS, ALTERNATE NCS, NODEs accessible to both, and the previous week's check-ins, are posted by Thursday on most of the Main county DAREN PBBS'.  The DAREN News can also be found on the wc8ec.org website.

I got a telephone call from Ken Butler, WA8TOX, about a MultiPSK program problem.  Ken uses the Soundcard program MiltiPSK for Packet Radio, and used to be able to see all traffic from stations that he could hear, but lately, he can only see traffic from the Net Control Station.  I'm not familiar with that soundcard program, as far as the commands, but it sounds like the BUDCALL command used in the Kantronics KPC-2 and KPC-3 TNCs.  If anyone is using the MultiPSK Soundcard program who can give Ken ideas on what to look for, I'm sure he would appreciate it.

I'm going to be busy all this week.  Our communications group will be operating the BINGO games at the Parkersburg Homecoming next Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.  Also on Saturday the group will be providing the communications for the Parkersburg Half Marathon, followed by the Homecoming Parade.  All I'll be getting the trailers ready to be taken to the homecoming, and also getting a portable UHF repeater set up for the Half Marathon.  I call this a killer weekend since we start setting up all the BINGO equipment on Thursday, then start the BINGO games at about 5:00 pm on Friday.  The games are over at about 10:00 pm, then I get a couple of hours sleep, and start setting up the equipment for the Half Marathon and homecoming parade on Saturday at about 4:00 am.  Then back to the BINGO games at 1:00 pm until the Fireworks start at 10:00 pm.  On Sunday we get a few hours sleep and start the BINGO games at 1:00 pm until about 10:00 pm.  After the games are over we have to remove all of the equipment (canopies, tables, chairs) from the parking lot, so that it can be used the next day for parking.  Like I said, it's a killer weekend for me.

Don't forget the West Virginia ARRL State Convention this coming weekend at Jackson Mills.  I won't be able to make it do to the activities at the Parkersburg Homecoming.

There were 50 check-ins to this week's State Wide DAREN Net.  Tom White, W3JTW, who's been participating in the net since November 7, 1998, has completed 500 check-ins.  Jim Woodford, KC8MLK, who been participating in the net since February 7, 2004, has completed 300 check-ins.  Both of these operators will be receiving their certificates as soon as I get back into the certificate program on my computer.  Frank Hughes, WD8DEP, needs only one more check-in to make 250.
