DAREN News, are articles and information about the Digital Amateur Radio "Emergency" Network of WV, which operates on 145.69 MHz.  Anyone having any information about DAREN, or Amateur Radio in general, and would like to share it with others, may send it to WA8LLM @ PKBGWV on 145.69 MHz, or to my E-Mail: wa8llm@yahoo.com. A State Wide DAREN NET is operated every Saturday from 7:00 pm to 10:00 pm, and lately, before and after those hours.  The DAREN Net Announcement, showing the MAIN NCS, ALTERNATE NCS, NODEs accessible to both, and the previous week's check-ins, are posted by Thursday on most of the Main county DAREN PBBS'.  The DAREN News can also be found on the wc8ec.org website.

Happy West Virginia Day.

Don't forget, this is Field Day weekend.  Field Day is the time to participate in an activity that will allow you test your ability operate your Amateur Radio in less than ideal conditions.  It's also the time to experiment with different transmission modes, and antennas.  For most of the year we operate our Amateur Radio equipment in conditions that are stable for the most part.  It's time to test out the generator that may not have had a work out this past winter.  How about the back-up batteries, are they still charged, or capable of being charged.  Will you be operating in a tent?  Are you sure that it is still waterproof?  Field Day gives your club, group, or organization the chance to show the general public, or Public Service agencies what Amateur Radio is about, and what can be provided in an emergency or disaster.  Take advantage of the one weekend of the year that many groups will be checking out what they are able to do if a real emergency or disaster happens, and all other regular or commercial communications are overloaded, or inoperable.  Have fun and learn something new.  The more you learn in an event like Field Day, the better prepared you will be in a real disaster.

That's all I have for this week.  If you have something that happens during Field Day let me know about it.

There were only 50 check-ins to this week's State Wide DAREN Net.  John Western, KC8ODI, needs only one more check-in to 300.  Don't forget the State Wide DAREN Net will be in operation during the Field Day period.  You should have plenty of time to get checked into the net.  Also show other Amateurs what Packet Radio is, and how it works.
