DAREN News, are articles and information about the Digital Amateur Radio "Emergency" Network of WV, which operates on 145.69 MHz.  Anyone having any information about DAREN, or Amateur Radio in general, and would like to share it with others, may send it to WA8LLM @ PKBGWV on 145.69 MHz, or to my E-Mail: wa8llm@yahoo.com.  A State Wide DAREN NET is operated every Saturday from 7:00 pm to 10:00 pm, and lately, before and after those hours.  The DAREN Net Announcement, showing the MAIN NCS, ALTERNATE NCS, NODEs accessible to both, and the previous week's check-ins, are posted by Thursday on most of the Main county DAREN PBBS'.  The DAREN News can also be found on the wc8ec.org website.

For the last few weeks there's been very little information to write about. The weekly State Wide DAREN Net has also been down a lot.  It could be that most of the operators are just busy outside getting caught up from the problems caused by the Winter snow or getting their gardens planted.  I still have a lot of grass and brush to get cut when I get one of my weed eaters working again. I'm also getting all the radios, antennas, computers, and other equipment ready for Field Day.  Field Day will be Saturday and Sunday, June 26th and 27th.  The State Wide DAREN will be in operation for the complete Field Day period.  Those who will be operating at Field Day should have enough time to check into the net.  If you have a Packet Radio station set up for Field Day, you can demonstrate how it works to Amateurs who have never operated Packet before. Each year there's a couple of new callsigns that check into the net, which I figure are Amateurs who are being shown how Packet works.  The Wood County Emergency Communications (WCEC) group will have a Packet Radio station in operation for Field Day in case other Field Day sites want to make contact. The callsign of the WCEC Packet station will be WC8EC.  A BEACON on the station will be transmitted about every 15 minutes.  If you want to make contact with the WCEC station, connect to WC8EC direct, or from any of the listed NODEs of WOODWV, RITCWV, or WASHOH.  Also if you want to make an extra 100 bonus points for Field Day, send me a ARRL RADIOGRAM via Packet Radio.  Leave the message on the PKBGWV PBBS.  That's all I have for this week.  If you would like to have something put in the DAREN News let me know.

There were only 45 check-ins to this week's State Wide DAREN Net.  Douglas Haines, W8DEH, who's been participating in the net since May 2, 2009 has completed 50 check-ins and will be receiving his certificate.
