DAREN News, are articles and information about the Digital Amateur Radio "Emergency" Network of WV, which operates on 145.69 MHz.  Anyone having any information about DAREN, or Amateur Radio in general, and would like to share it with others, may send it to WA8LLM @ PKBGWV on 145.69 MHz, or to my E-Mail: wa8llm@yahoo.com.  A State Wide DAREN NET is operated every Saturday from 7:00 pm to 10:00 pm, and lately, before and after those hours.  The DAREN Net Announcement, showing the MAIN NCS, ALTERNATE NCS, NODEs accessible to both, and the previous week's check-ins, are posted by Thursday on most of the Main county DAREN PBBS'.  The DAREN News can also be found on the wc8ec.org website.

News sure has been slow lately.  I'm late getting this issue out due to activities over the weekend.  The 2 Meter Band seems to be in normal condition, so I figure that some DAREN stations may just be off the air.  The check-ins to the weekly State Wide DAREN has been down for a few weeks now, but I'm not for sure why.  It's possible the normal Packet operators may be busy getting caught up with outside work they couldn't do in the winter.  I've also been doing outside work trying to get ahead of the weeds, brush, and grass.  About two months ago a large tree fell across the guy wires to one of my towers and caused it to bend over at the 80 foot section.  I've been trying to get everything else caught up so that I can work on the tower.  All of my gardens have been planted so that's one thing I don't have to work on, although I still need to keep the weeds out of them.  I'm also getting equipment ready for Field Day which will be coming up shortly.  If you, or your club, is going to be operating Field Day, let me know what callsign, and class, you will be operating under so I can put it in the DAREN News.  Don't forget that you can get bonus points on Field Day by sending an ARRL RADIOGRAM message to the ARRL WV Section Manager, Ann Rinehart, KA8ZGY, ka8zgy@suddenlink.net, and myself, wa8llm@yahoo.com, the Section Emergency Coordinator.  The messages need to be sent via Amateur Radio during the 24 hour Field Day period.  Since Winlink 2000 is an Amateur Radio Packet system, which is interfaced with the Internet, the messages can be sent that way.  Well, I've rambled on long enough.  If you have something to ramble about, send it to me, I need something put in the News. After almost 18 years of sending out the weekly DAREN News, I would hate to just stop.  Please send me something.

There were only 48 check-ins to this week's State Wide DAREN Net.  Douglas Haines, W8DEH, needs only one more check-in to make 50.  I got a new ink cartridge for my printer, so I should be printing up some certificates for those who need them.
