DAREN News, are articles and information about the Digital Amateur Radio "Emergency" Network of WV, which operates on 145.69 MHz.  Anyone having any information about DAREN, or Amateur Radio in general, and would like to share it with others, may send it to WA8LLM @ PKBGWV on 145.69 MHz, or to my E-Mail: wa8llm@yahoo.com.  A State Wide DAREN NET is operated every Saturday from 7:00 pm to 10:00 pm, and lately, before and after those hours.  The DAREN Net Announcement, showing the MAIN NCS, ALTERNATE NCS, NODEs accessible to both, and the previous week's check-ins, are posted by Thursday on most of the Main county DAREN PBBS'.  The DAREN News can also be found on the wc8ec.org website.

I went to the Athens, Ohio, Hamfest today and saw a few of the DAREN operators. The Jackson County Hamfest will be this coming Sunday, May 2nd.  It will be held at the Ripley Middle School in Ripley, WV.  I won't be able to attend it this year because I'll be helping provide the Safety Communications at the Challenge at Mountwood, Mountain Bike Races in Wood County.

I've noticed the Greenbrier County NODE/PBBS of GREEWV/FAIRWV has been down for a few weeks.  I also noticed that Joe Forren, ND4B, who is the SYSOP of the station, hasn't checked into the net since March 13th.  I know that Joe is okay since I hear him on the West Virginia Fone Net on 3811 KHz.  I had talked to Joe at the Charleston Hamfest, on March 20th, and he said he was having a little trouble with the station and would like to get the antenna a little bit higher.  With Summer, and warmer weather coming, maybe Joe will get the station back in operation soon.

There were 58 check-ins to this week's State Wide DAREN Net.  Lisa Hendershot, KB8UER, who's been participating in the net since August 20, 1994, has completed 800 check-ins.  Randy Thomas, K8KHW, who's been participating in the net since February 13, 1999, has completed 400 check-ins.  And, Paul Roy, N8PER, who's been participating in the net since April 28, 2007, has completed 150 check-ins.  All of these operators will be receiving their certificates. Jerry Sturm, KC8SIG, needs only one for check-in to make 50.  There was one new participate to the net this week, and that was Eugene Boggs, KD8IND, from Belpre, Ohio.  I want to welcome Eugene to the DAREN system and hope that he will participate in the net as often as possible.  Last week I congratulated Donnie Woodford, KC8YVR, on completing 250 check-ins to the State Wide DAREN Net.  I also said that he would be receiving "HIS" certificate.  I found out that Donnie is the wife of Jim Woodford, KC8MLK.  Sorry about that Donnie.
