DAREN News, are articles and information about the Digital Amateur Radio "Emergency" Network of WV, which operates on 145.69 MHz.  Anyone having any information about DAREN, or Amateur Radio in general, and would like to share it with others, may send it to WA8LLM @ PKBGWV on 145.69 MHz, or to my E-Mail: wa8llm@yahoo.com.  A State Wide DAREN NET is operated every Saturday from 7:00 pm to 10:00 pm, and lately, before and after those hours.  The DAREN Net Announcement, showing the MAIN NCS, ALTERNATE NCS, NODEs accessible to both, and the previous week's check-ins, are posted by Thursday on most of the Main county DAREN PBBS'.  The DAREN News can also be found on the wc8ec.org website.

It's been another quiet week with nothing to report.  The only thing that I can think of is a few Hamfests coming up this year.  The Charleston Hamfest will be coming up in a couple of weeks.  The Charleston Hamfest will be on March 20th at the Armory at Coonskin Park.  The Jackson County Hamfest will be held on May 2nd at the Ripley Middle School in Ripley.  The Parkersburg Hamfest will be held on October 9th.  The Parkersburg Hamfest is still being organized, but the location has already been established.  The Hamfest will be held at the Wood County 4-H Fair grounds, on Butcher Bend Road near Mineral Wells.

With all of the snowy weather that we've had this winter we've been pretty lucky not having radio problems with any of the DAREN stations.  Also with the bad weather I would think there might be some weather related stories.  If you have anything that you would like to pass on to others, drop me a line.  That's it for this week.

There were 59 check-ins again to this week's State Wide DAREN Net.  John Peterson, K8ZPR, who's been participating in the net since April 23, 1994, has completed 800 check-ins.  And, Vivian Arnold, KA8VAH, who's been participating in the net since December 4, 1993, has completed 750 check-ins.  Both of these operators will be receiving their certificates.  My son Kevin Harris, KC8OXY, needs only one more check-in to make 500.
