DAREN News, are articles and information about the Digital Amateur Radio "Emergency" Network of WV, which operates on 145.69 MHz.  Anyone having any information about DAREN, or Amateur Radio in general, and would like to share it with others, may send it to WA8LLM @ PKBGWV on 145.69 MHz, or to my E-Mail: wa8llm@yahoo.com.  A State Wide DAREN NET is operated every Saturday from 7:00 pm to 10:00 pm, and lately, before and after those hours.  The DAREN Net Announcement, showing the MAIN NCS, ALTERNATE NCS, NODEs accessible to both, and the previous week's check-ins, are posted by Thursday on most of the Main county DAREN PBBS'.  The DAREN News can also be found on the wc8ec.org website.

The News is a little late getting out this week.  We held the Packet Radio class this week.  There were 15 people at the class.  This was the first time that I taught the Packet class using the Power Point Program that I put together about a year ago.  For the most part the class went very well, but I need to add a little more information to some of the slides and do a little be better giving instructions during the hands-on part of the class.  As in the past there are 8 complete Packet Radio stations set up in the class room.  The TNCs (terminal NODE Controllers are connected to a simulated radio system that acts just like to real world, but it doesn't actually transmit on the air. During the hand-on part of the class demonstrations of how to Digipeat, and connect from NODE to NODE are practiced.  This show the advance and disadvantages of both.  The students were instructed on how to set up a TNC, and how to use the PBBS, or Mailbox.

I still have a few State Wide DAREN Net Certificates to get printed up and sent out, maybe I can get them done this week.

There's just not been any activities much to report on so that's it for this week.  If you, your club, group, or organization has anything to pass on, let me know.

There were 59 check-ins to this week's State Wide DAREN Net.  Bob Tuckerman, W3RUA, who's been participating in the net since December 18, 1993, has completed 750 check-ins and will be receiving his certificate.  John Peterson, K8ZPR, needs only one more check-in to make 800.  And, Vivian Arnold, KA8VAH, needs only one more check-in to make 750.
