WOOD COUNTY ARES BULLETIN NR 20.01 DATE: January 5, 2020
SUBJECT: ACTIVITIES FOR 2020
In 2020, as in the past, there will be several activities that will require Amateur Radio communications. Help is always needed with most of these activities. These activities are sometimes the only training that we get in preparation for emergencies that require experienced communicators. They are sometimes the only communications that may be available when actual emergencies or disasters happen.
Activities such as Road Runs & Walks, Cross Country Races, and Mountain Bicycle Races rely on Amateur Radio communications and communicators to provide immediate help for those who may need assistance. Providing communications during Disaster Drills and Exercises give us the opportunity to test out our emergency communications procedures and equipment, and make personal contact with City, County, and State Officials that we may have to work with in a real disaster or emergency.
When announcements are made as to what activities are coming up, mark them on your calendar and try to help. These activities need all the help they can get, and most of the time they don't take all day. There are some activities that may take from four to eight hours, but the training is well worth it.
