WOOD COUNTY ARES BULLETIN NR 18.18          DATE: May 6, 2018
SUBJECT: ANOTHER USE FOR MOTH BALLS

If you ever have any electronic equipment at a remote location such as a tower site, you might like this bulletin.  Unless your electronic equipment, such as repeater, packet station, remote receiver, etc. is in a very sealed building or room, it has a good chance of being infested by insects such as ants.

A sure way of keeping ants out of the equipment is to place moth balls near the equipment.  The smell of the moth balls will keep ants, and other insects from making a home inside the equipment.

If the insects have already invaded your electronic equipment, don't spray insect killer on, or in the equipment, all that may do is damage it, beyond what the insects will do.  Instead, remove the top and/or bottom of the equipment and place the moth balls near the it.  The invading insects will soon start vacating the equipment, taking anything they can carry with them.

Check the moth balls from time to time, since they do disappear over time.
