WOOD COUNTY ARES BULLETIN NR 18.04       DATE: January 28, 2018
SUBJECT: SUMMER ACTIVITIES STARTING

Even though it's still the middle of the winter we need to start thinking about spring and summer activities that will require safety communications.  There has been one activity already scheduled that usually requires safety communications.  Even though we haven't been requested yet, the activity is the Challenge at Mountwood Mountain Bike Race.  The race is scheduled for April 8th at 12:00 noon.

The Challenge at Mountwood is an event that requires safety communications at several locations on the race course.  Some of the locations have steep down hill rides with sharp turns at the bottom, and large drop offs, if the turns aren't made.  It also has road crossings where traffic needs to be stopped to allow the bike racers to cross the roads safely.  This is a race and not just a bike ride.

Other activities requiring safety communications are the Vienna River Road Fun Run which is usually held on the 4th Saturday in April.  The Chic-Fil-A Road Run is usually held on the 3rd Saturday in May.  And, the Parkersburg Half Marathon which is held on Saturday, the same weekend of the Parkersburg Homecoming in August.

Other events where safety communications are needed is the High School/Middle School Cross Country foot races which are held in September and October.

Help with these events is always needed.  Please plan on helping with the events when the dates are finalized.
