WOOD COUNTY ARES BULLETIN NR 17.33          DATE: August 12, 2017
SUBJECT: WHAT IS PROJECT LIFESAVER?

Project Lifesaver is program that keeps track of those persons who wonder off, and can't be found.  People who have Alzheimer's Disease is a good example.  They may be living at home or in a Nursing Home, and they just decide to take a walk, but don't know where they are going.

The person is fitted with a wrist band that is equipped with a very low power transmitter.  The transmitter transmits a continuous string of beeps on its own assigned frequency.

If the person happens to wonder off, and are discovered missing, they, they can be tracked down by using the low power wrist band transmitter.  Most of the time the person can be found within 30 minutes.

The wrist band transmitters operate using Amplitude Modulation in the frequency range of 215 to 218 MHz, and power of about 10 Milliwatts.  Tracking of the wrist band transmitter is about the same process that Amateur Radio operators use during hidden transmitter fox hunts.  The practice of Amateur Radio fox hunting would help in the Project Lifesaver Program.
