WOOD COUNTY BULLETIN NR 17.17          DATE: April 21, 2017
SUBJECT: SIGN IN FRONT YARD

For years I've said that during an emergency, when public telephone communications are overloaded, disrupted, disabled, or completely out, Amateur Radio operators should go to locations such as Fire Departments, Service Stations, Grocery Stores, etc., and be available for the general public to find emergency communications.  For those Amateurs who are unable to leave their home for one reason or another, but still want to help provide Emergency Communications, a large sign could be placed in their front yard to allow those passing by know that communications help is near.

The sign should be large enough and simple enough to be seen at a glance.  It should be painted a bright color with the words "Emergency Communications Available Here" on it.  If you had such a sign, you should only display it when you are actually ready and able to handle the communications.  You would not want to display it when you're not at home, you could cause someone unwanted delay in getting the emergency help they may need.
