FROM:  KEN HARRIS WA8LLM ARRL DISTRICT 3 EMERGENCY COORDINATOR

WOOD COUNTY BULLETIN NR 16.48          DATE: November 27, 2016
SUBJECT: ARES REGISTRATION FORM.

What is an ARES Registration Form?  The ARES Registration Form is a way of listing your communications capabilities and equipment. In case of an emergency or disaster that requires several radio operators, and a lot of equipment, the form can be used to contact ARES members who have said they would help, if they are able.  It also has a list of equipment other than communications, such as boats, trailers, generators, etc., that may be available if needed.

Registering as an ARES member doesn't mean you have drop whatever you're doing and help with the emergency or disaster.  It just lets the local, or county American Radio Relay League, (ARRL) Emergency Coordinator (EC) know you are willing to help, and how to contact you.  The ARES Registration Form can be used to find what equipment may be available.

The local ARES Registration Form is a little different from the original ARRL form, since it asks for mobile, base, and portable communication capabilities, as well as other non-communications equipment.  The ARES Registration Form is just a resource list to help the local or county EC when they need assistance.
