WOOD COUNTY BULLETIN NR 16.44          DATE: October 30, 2016
SUBJECT: THINK BEFORE YOU PROMISE

Think about what you want to do to help someone before you promise to do so.  For example, if you come upon someone on a lonely road who's car has ran out of gas.  Will you promise them to go get some gas and come back, or take them so they can get the gas and bring them back?  Or, do just tell them you will bring back the gas, and not think any more about it after you leave them there?

They may tell the next person who stops to help; they already have someone going for gas, or help, when help is not really on its way.  Or, do you promise someone you will be there to help and just never show up?  If you promise something, you should try to keep that promise unless something like an emergency comes up. If that is the case, you should let the person you promised what has happened, and even then you should try to find someone to take your place.

Just think the next time you promise something, do it if at all possible, or find someone to do it for you.  Just think it could be you that someone broke a promise to, what kind of mess is it going to leave you in?

Just remember the Golden Rule - Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.
