ARES BULLETIN NR 16.11               DATE: March 13, 2016
SUBJECT: RUB ELBOWS

Don't be afraid to communicate with other agencies.  When you find out about pubic meetings of other agencies, such as Fire Departments, Fire Associations, Emergency Services, Local Emergency Planning Committees, Amateur Radio clubs. or other such agencies, make a point to attend their meeting.  You don't have to be an active participate in the meetings, just listen to what they have to save.

You might be surprised what you can learn or find out.  If they are having problem that you might be able to help with, then throw in your two cents worth.  Get to know the members of the other agencies, and let them get to know you.  In the times of emergencies, and disasters, you may be able to help them with the problem.  It's best to know the other people who you might need to work with, before the ship hits the sand.  Let them know who you are, and what you can offer.

It's may be too late to offer help when the event occurs.  If the other agencies don't know who you are, or what you can offer, they may not have time to find out.  They may have their hands full and don't need another problem, which may be what you are, if they don't know you.  Rub elbows, and get to know the members of other agencies.  Find out what they do and what they know.  Do it before it's too late.
