WV ARES BULLETIN NR 09.50 DATE: December 13, 2015
SUBJECT: BRING YOUR OWN EQUIPMENT
When you're asked to help provide communications for some kind of activity, be sure to have your own equipment with you, and available in case you need it.
There's at least three reasons to bring your own equipment. (1) The last time you may have used someone else's equipment might have been quite awhile ago, and it may not work, or some of the equipment may be missing. (2) If the equipment is there, and it's programmable, it may have lost it's memory, or may have been re-programmed, which will cause you lost time providing the service. (3) If the equipment has been setting very long, it may be okay at first, but may fail, or quit working while you're using it.
In any case, by having your own equipment with you, you know it's condition, and you know what it's capable of, and you should be able to re-program it if it doesn't have the frequencies that you need. If you have everything you need, there's a better chance of providing the service that you've been asked to provide.
