WOOD COUNTY BULLETIN NR 15.45            DATE: NOVEMBER 8, 2015
SUBJECT: HOW TO STORE YOUR EMERGENCY EQUIPMENT

If you are planning to have equipment on hand when a disaster happens, how would you keep it safe and dry?  There are several items that can by used.  You can get food containers that are used to store food for long periods of time.  Since most of them have snap on type lids, that should keep anything in them dry if exposed to wet weather.  Caning type jars are another device that would keep your emergency equipment dry.

Most of the cheap low powered FRS (Family Service Radio), and GMRS (General Mobile Radio Service) radios are small enough to keep in the One Pint or One Quart caning jars.  The batteries for those radios should be kept in a separate jar so they don't cause damage to the radio, if they happen to leak, and they do, if left too long without being used.

Don't forget about Ziplock type bags.  They are also good for storing emergency equipment, but aren't as secure.  If the disaster is bad enough, they might get torn open, and the equipment might get wet.  Of course no type of the storage container is foolproof.  It's best to your equipment in a good solid storage type boxes that won't be damaged if something was to fall on them.

These are just some things to think about while you have time.  You might be the only one prepared for a disaster.
