WOOD COUNTY BULLETIN NR 14.31           DATE: August 3, 2014
SUBJECT: NEVER SAY CAN'T

As Emergency Communicators there's going to be times when you may come upon problems that you will have to find a solution. There may be times when disaster or emergency officials ask you to do something that you don't know how to do.  At no time should you tell them that you can't do it.  If you don't think it can be done, don't tell them that it can't be done.  Instead tell them you will try your best to find a solution.

If you just tell them that it can't be done, they may ask someone else to come up with a solution.  If the other people come up with a solution, how will that make you look?  The officials my not ask for your help again.  After you have told them you will try your best, keep them posted on you progress.

If you're not sure of a solution, contact the other members in you group and work on the problem together.  Maybe one of them has had a similar problem, find a solution, and it can be modified to fit your problem.  You might be surprised what more than one person working on a problem might come up with.  You may find a solution that may not be the right way of doing it, but if it gets the problem answered, that's all you need to do.

If there is no solution for the problem, be sure to tell the officials why it can't be done, don't just leave them hanging. Just be sure you have exhausted all of your recourses before you tell them it can't be done.
