SUBJECT: TRYING TO STAY AWAKE?

Do you have trouble staying awake while you're driving?  The best thing to do if you are getting sleepy is to pull off the road and rest your eyes for a little while.  If that's not possible here’s a couple of a thing you might try.  You always hear of people getting a cup of coffee.  Well... I don't know if it's the coffee that keeps you awake or not, but having a cup of coffee in your hand while you're driving keeps your mind on trying not to spill it.  A hot cup of coffee spilled in your lap may wake you up if you fall asleep while driving.
The only thing bad about drinking coffee to keep you alert and awake is the frequent road side breaks, if you know what I mean.  I heard this one a few years ago.  Get a cup of ice, just plan ice, nothing else.  Sip the melting ice.  That may keep your hands busy and your mind alert while driving.  The thing to remember is; just don't drive when you haven't had plenty of rest, or you're taking a medicine that can make you sleepy.
If you have a two-way radio such as an Amateur or CB in your car, turn it to an active frequency where people are talking, and get into the conversation, that might keep you awake.  If you can't find something on the radio, and it's cold outside, roll your window down and let the cold air blow in your face.   It's better to arrive at your destination a little late than not at all.  When traveling leave a little earlier and take several breaks.
