It makes no difference what type of service you are providing, you can always learn from the people you are working with. It's hard to know what's happening when you're sitting back behind the lines, or in a command center several miles from where the action is. Those persons or agencies who are providing support need to listen to those who are at the front lines and assist in any way they can. Don't try to tell them how to run their operation. Listen to what they have to say and then if they're looking for suggestions, throw in your two cents worth.
It's easier to think when you're not on the front lines and having questions thrown at you from all angles. You may even have more resources then those on the front lines. If you are asked to get a special piece of equipment, then try your best to get it from them. If what they are asking for is not available, or is going to take awhile to get, let them know and ask if there's anything else that might be used. Don't just substitute without first asking.
Those agencies that are on the scene, at the front lines, or just where the action is taking place, have a better idea of what they need. Your job is to support them in any way you can.
