WOOD COUNTY BULLETIN NR 13.40 DATE: October 6, 2013 SUBJECT: WHY A SIMPLEX NET?

You may be asking why do we operate a simplex net, when there are plenty of repeaters available. There may be a time when all repeaters are not operational due to a number of problems. All repeaters could be off the air due to a wide spread power outage that lasts an extended period of time. Operating simplex nets allows us to practice passing messages when those repeaters are not available. It also allows us to practice relaying information between stations who are unable to hear each other. So any time you get a chance to operate in a simplex net, you should take advantage of it, and learn how to pass information or even operate as the Net Control Station. The time may come when you will need to operate in a disaster or emergency, and have to do it on simplex.
