WV ARES BULLETIN NR 13.15 DATE: April 14, 2013 SUBJECT: SHORTEST PENCIL

I've heard it said that the shortest pencil is better than the longest memory. It's best to write something down as soon as you think about it. But it's not always a bad thing, if it is done during an exercise, drill, or an non-emergency activity.

If you don't write it down when you think of it, it's almost a sure thing that you will forget something. If you forget what you are supposed to do, you may have to work around it. Working around something may not always be bad, because it will let you come up with a way to make it work, and in a real disaster or emergency you may remember what you did to correct the problem.

Just don't make it a habit of forgetting things. Find a short pencil and make a note as soon as you think of something.
