WOOD COUNTY BULLETIN NR 12.29               DATE: July 15, 2012
SUBJECT : JUNE 29TH WAS NOT A DISASTER

June 29th was not a disaster, it was an eye opener.  If it were a disaster, the power would not have been back on in a few days to a week or so.  It would have taken more than a couple of days to start getting gasoline for your back-up generators and your vehicle.

A lot of people said it was a disaster since there was a lot of trees blown over and power lines were down.  That is not a disaster, that is an eye opener, or an inconvenience.  A disaster is when you no longer have a home to sleep in because it was damaged or destroyed, or you don't have a vehicle to get around in because it was damaged when a tree fell on it, or the roads were destroyed from flooding.

The event on June 29th should give you an idea of what to expect when there is a disaster, and you are not prepared.  Make notes on what went wrong and start correcting them.  Don't wait for the next event to start getting ready.  You will be in the same shape as this one, but the next time it may be worse, or it might be a disaster.
