WOOD COUNTY BULLETIN NR 12.21 DATE: May 20, 2012
SUBJECT: MP3 PLAYER, OTHER USES
MP-3 Players can be used for a numbers of things. They can make a good source of ready reference. Some players allow you to not only listen to audio, they can allow you to review text files and view pictures.
You might ask how this can be a ready reference for emergency communications. If you store a list of call signs, road marker, and frequencies into text files, then you would have information at your fingertips.
You could put pictures of equipment setups, parts, and other useful pictures that might be helpful. Pictures of clouds might be handy for SKYWARN weather watching, when you don’t have a hard copy with you.
Also don’t forget to have copies of your personal information such as your birth certificate, driver’s license, and Amateur Radio License. You can also have copies of your FEMA NIMS course certificates, and other information.
Don’t forget the Flash Drives, Thumb Drives, or the storage devices by other names, which are small and useful for storage of information. These devices can be accessed on most modern computers by use of the USB Port. As with the MP-3 Player, flash drives can store much more information, including videos, but needs the use of a computer.
Other things that could come in handy as emergency communicators are laptop computers, tablets, and book readers. These are just a few possibilities. If anything, this bulletin might get you to thinking of other devices, and how they can be useful.
