WOOD COUNTY BULLETIN NR 11.21               DATE: May 22, 2011
SUBJECT: EMERGENCY PREPAREDNESS / FIELD DAY

Field Day is many times misunderstood, and sometimes thought of as a contest.  Well, in a way it is a contest, to prove how well we can operate in abnormal conditions, for extended periods of time, and with as many different modes as we can.  This is one of the best emergency preparedness drills we can perform.

In the past we had several Amateurs who helped us set up, but some were unable to operate.  This year we have several new Amateurs and new upgrades to General.  With any luck we should be able to operate on all of the transmitters for the whole 24 hour period.

If you can't operate the whole 24 hours, that's okay, but it you can operate a few hours that will work too.  If you have never operated on the HF bands, now is you chance to find out there is more than just the Two Meter Band, and repeaters.  We welcome any and all interested amateurs to join us during this year's Field Day Operations.

Operations begin at 1800 hours UTC (2:00 PM Local), on Saturday, June 25th, and runs through 1800 hours UTC, Sunday, June 26th.  Anyone who would like to camp out a few nights before is welcome to do so.  Camping out on Friday night will allow us an early start the Saturday morning.

Our Field Day site will be at a hilltop location on Rising Sun Ridge, just a very short distance from Laurel Road, which is about four and one half miles off of Old St. Marys Pike.  Turn Right off of Laurel Creek Road onto Rising Sun Ridge and then onto Hendershot Farm Drive.  Go to the top of the hill.

We will most likely be operating five stations in class A this year, but at the last minute we may change to more or less stations, depending on the amount of operators that are able to help.

We will be operating a solar powered station to get an extra hundred points, and allow operators see how they work.  Make plans to join the Wood County Emergency Communications group on June 25th and 26th, for a great time and learn a bunch.  Enjoy emergency preparedness at its best.
