WV ARES BULLETIN NR 09.51               DATE: December 20, 2009
SUBJECT: BRING YOUR OWN EQUIPMENT

When you're asked to help provide communications for some kind of activity, be sure to have your own equipment with you, and available, in case you need it.

There are at least three reasons to bring your own equipment. The last time you may have used someone else's equipment might have been quite awhile ago, and it may not work, or some of the equipment may be missing.  If the equipment is there, and it's programmable, it may have lost its memory, or may have been re- programmed, which will cause you to lost time providing the service. If the equipment has been setting very long, it may be okay at first, but may fail, or quit working while you're using it.

In any case, by having your own equipment with you, you know its condition, so there's a better chance of providing the service that you've been asked to provide.
