SUBJECT: STOLEN LICENSE PLATES
Yes, I'm talking about the license plate that is supposed to be on your car or truck, not your Amateur Radio license. You should check your license plate from time-to-time, to be sure that it's still there. With the price of gasoline these days, do you know how easy it would be to pull into a gasoline station, fill up your tank, and drive off without paying for it, especially with someone else's license plate on your car? If the attendant at the station happens to get the license number, it's going to tracked it to whoever owns the license plate. If it happens to be yours, and you have your Amateur Radio callsign on the license plate, your callsign will be broadcast over the police radio for everyone who has a scanner to hear. Not only will it look like you stole the gas, you will also have to prove that it wasn't you. Secure the license plate onto your vehicle with some kind of security screw that will make it hard to remove. Every time you return from parking your car somewhere, walk around it o make sure the license plate is still there. Try to park your car where the license plate is in clear view in case someone who wants to steal it, they may think they will be seen. If your license plate is missing or stolen, report it at once to the police, that way it will be on record in case someone tries to use it to steal gas, or commit other crimes.
