A State Wide DAREN NET is operated every Saturday from 7:00 pm to 10:00 pm, and lately, before and after those hours. The DAREN Net Announcement, showing the MAIN NCS, ALTERNATE NCS, NODEs accessible to both, and the previous week's check-ins, are posted by Thursday on most of the Main county DAREN PBBS'. The DAREN News can also be found on the www.wc8ec.com and www.wc8ec.org websites.
It's sure been a slow week. A lot of the Wood County Emergency Communications (WCEC) group activities are getting cancelled. We got a report that two of the main road races we provide communications for have been canceled. I received an E-Mail that the Parkersburg Half Marathon which is usually held during the Homecoming in August has been cancelled, and the Chic-Fil-A Road Run that is usually held in May has been cancelled. We were told by the officials of the Parkersburg Homecoming they are still going to hold the homecoming, but it will only be for a couple days. The WCEC group is planning to hold an Amateur VE Test session on Saturday, May 16th. We were only going to test a couple people, but we have been receiving telephone calls from around the area, and from Ohio, and Kentucky. Some of them said they have been checking all around for some place where they can take their test, but have had no luck. The WCEC group will be doing the testing at the Eastwood Volunteer Fire station on Route 47, at about 9:00 AM. The fire station is located about 10 miles East of Parkersburg.
There were 34 check-ins to the State Wide DAREN Net this week. Terry Mills, KC8TUE, who has been participating in the net since October 19, 2002, has completed 850 check-ins and will be receiving his certificate. Keith Dobbins, N8KLD, needs only one more check to make 300.
