DAREN News, are articles and information about the Digital Amateur Radio "Emergency" Network of WV, which operates on 145.69 MHz. Anyone having any information about DAREN, or Amateur Radio in general, and would like to share it with others, may send it to WA8LLM @ PKBGWV on 145.69 MHz, or to my E-Mail: email@example.com. A State Wide DAREN NET is operated every Saturday from 7:00 pm to 10:00 pm, and lately, before and after those hours. The DAREN Net Announcement, showing the MAIN NCS, ALTERNATE NCS, NODEs accessible to both, and the previous week's check-ins, are posted by Thursday on most of the Main county DAREN PBBS'. The DAREN News can also be found on the www.wc8ec.com and www.wc8ec.org websites.
On Thursday morning, April 2nd, Gene Roy, N8ER, sent me an E-Mail letting me know that he hadn't been about to connect to the Barbour County NODE/PBBS of BARBWV/PHILWV for a couple of days. Before I started this DAREN News I tried to connect to the station with no success. I hope the SYSOP of the station gets it back up before the state wide net this coming weekend. There are a few operators that use that station to check into the net. I hope we haven't lost another NOD/PBBS.
I haven't been doing much this week. I've been staying home like a lot of people, just hoping this Coronavirus event gets over with quickly. I have a lot of DAREN stations to get back on the air, but I don't know when I'm going to be able to work on them. If this event lasts until the end of the year, it will be too cold to be working outside on them. I did receive a letter from the West Virginia Tax & BINGO department. They said they will not be issuing any BINGO Licenses until it's safe for people to be able to gather together. Two of the Wood County Emergency Communications major fund raisers are BINGO games at the Parkersburg Homecoming in August, and the Volcano Days Festival in September. The group is still planning to hold their Hamfest in October, unless the Wood County 4-H committee closes their main building where the Hamfest is held. I'll be checking with them about a month before the Hamfest to see what their plans are. I'll keep everyone posted. That's pretty much it for this week. You may let me know what is happening around your neck of the woods.
There were 34 check-ins to the State Wide DAREN Net this week. Morris (Mo) Kittle, AD8T, who has been participating in the net since May 17, 2003, has completed 200 check-ins, and will be receiving his certificate.
